Blue Jays
Blue jays, like their cousins, the crows, are fiercely protective of their own. A domestic cat will sometimes take advantage of that fact.
If a cat can pin down a blue jay by one wing, while the bird struggles to get away, the whole flock will come to defend it. The other jays will swoop in, one by one, trying to force the cat to let go. The cat can then kill many blue jays while keeping the original jay alive as a hostage. That has actually happened.
For an animist or shaman, that protectiveness means that the spirit of Blue Jay, if willing, can be called upon as a protector of home and family.
