Shamanism Groups and Classes
Shamanism-related Yahoo groups, Google groups, and other email lists can be a great way to meet like-minded people, even people in your own town that you might never otherwise have met.
Some groups are much better than others. This section will discuss some of the benefits and the pitfalls of such groups and list some that you might find useful.
Shamanism Meetups
Shamanism Meetups are organized at http://www.shamanism.meetup.com. You can enter your Zip code to find a group near you.
If there’s a shamanism Meetup group near you, it can be a great place to meet others who are interested in shamanism, and maybe to find a shamanism teacher in your area.
In Houston, Texas (USA), there’s the Houston Shamanism Meetup group. We meet on the second Saturday of each month to journey, and do shamanic work together.
Shamanism Courses and Classes
One of the best places to study shamanic practices is the Cuyamungue Institute in New Mexico. See their web site and sign up for their free newsletter for more information.
The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, founded by Dr. Michael Harner, is probably the best known school of shamanism. I have had mixed results from their classes, but they do offer classes in many parts of the country.
There are also local shamanic journeying classes in some places. Try doing a Google search or check the metaphysical publications and/or new age shops in your area.
