Audio CDs and MP3s

We keep finding great CDs of drumming, rattling, and other sounds for use in shamanic journeying. There have always been recordings of indigenous shamanic ceremonies, which some people may find inspiring or interesting. Now we’ve also started finding CDs that teach how to do harmonic toning.

This page lists shamanism-related audio CDs that we’ve tried–with descriptions and comments. In the future some of the more important or unusual ones may be more fully reviewed on separate, linked pages.

Most items can be purchased through the Shamanista Amazon Book Shop. For the rest we provide on-line sources whenever we can.

Drumming for Journeying

Shamanic Journey Drumming (Disc) by Michael Drake. On this CD, Drake drums rhythms for journeying. Three tracks: 15-minute solo drumming with callback, 15-minute solo drumming with rattle and callback, and 30-minute solo drumming with callback.

The harmonic overtones and undertones on this recording were produced by a 22-inch single-headed, elk hide, cedar frame drum pulsed at four-beats-per-second. That tempo induces a theta wave cycle in the brain.

Theta rhythms are associated with the deepest states of shamanic consciousness. Researchers have found that if a tempo of four-beats-per-second is sustained for at least 15 minutes, most people can journey successfully even on their first attempt.

The CD comes with the book (in a pocket inside the back cover).
